Address Changed After Shifting House? How to Update Address in Family ID

The boxes are unpacked, the ration is in the new kitchen, and life has moved — but your Family ID has not. Whether your family has taken a rented room two lanes away or bought a house in another district, your PPP record keeps pointing to the old home until you change it yourself. Go to the official Mera Parivar portal, open Update Family Details, sign in with your 8-digit Family ID and the OTP that arrives on the Head of Family’s registered mobile, and write the new address in place of the old one. Nothing else in the record needs to move.

The Move Happened. The Record Did Not.

PPP has no way of knowing that a truck carried your furniture across town last week. The address inside the record stays whatever it was on the day it was last entered, and every reading of your family record uses that older address.

Think about what follows an address in practice. Any local verification, visit or follow-up connected with your family is aimed at the locality your record describes. If the record describes the previous house, the effort goes to the previous house, long after you have handed back its keys. Letters and notices that travel by the recorded address travel to the wrong doorstep too. Settled families assume the system has caught up; it hasn’t, and it won’t until the family itself updates the record through an official channel.

Be clear about what this job is not. Moving house inside Haryana does not divide your family into two, and it does not cancel anything. The same Family ID continues — only the address line needs to catch up with you.

Which Written Address Should You Copy From?

Before touching the portal, settle on paper which version of the new address you will enter, because families usually have the new home written in more than one way across their papers.

You have rented a room or a floor in the same town. Most lines stay familiar — same district, same PIN area — and the temptation is to edit from memory. Resist it. Note the new house number, the landlord’s street or mohalla name as neighbours actually call it, and confirm the PIN rather than assuming it survived the move.

You have shifted to your own house in another district. Nearly every line changes: village or town, block, district and PIN. Write the complete address in one unbroken block, the way you would address an envelope to yourself, and treat that block as the single version to copy.

Your papers disagree with each other. One document may shorten a street name while another spells it out, or one may carry the older PIN. Pick the one complete, current version and enter exactly that in PPP. A later check is painless when every record you own tells the same story, line for line.

Changing the Address, Step by Step

Because only a single field is being touched, the visit to the portal can stay brief.

Begin at Citizen Corner. Open meraparivar.haryana.gov.in, go into Citizen Corner and select Update Family Details. Answer Yes and key in your 8-digit Family ID; if the number is not with you, answer No and locate the record through the Head of Family’s Aadhaar instead.

Pass the OTP check. A one-time password is sent to the Head of Family mobile number held in PPP. Type it in, and the family’s stored details open in front of you.

Touch the address, nothing else. Delete the old address and type the new one from the written block you prepared. Leave every member entry and every other detail exactly as it stands.

Finish it properly. Take a printout of the form, have it signed, and upload the signed copy back through the portal — that upload is what closes the change. The reason a signed upload completes a PPP update is set out in the print, sign and upload step explained.

Look at the record once more. Come back into the family record and read what the address now says. The job is done when the screen shows your new home, not when the form is submitted.

Occasionally the address refuses to change in self-service. CRID’s description of the system explains why: once a field has been verified, the self-update flow no longer allows it to be edited. Repeated attempts on the same screen will not help. The address can still be pursued through the official Correction or Grievance route, or by carrying the request to an assisted counter. The shape of that Correction/Grievance route is walked through in how to apply for income correction online.

One boundary worth naming: if your family’s move takes you out of Haryana altogether, an address edit is the wrong tool. What happens to a PPP number when a family leaves the state is dealt with in what happens to a Family ID after leaving Haryana.

Prefer a Counter? The Assisted Way

Self-service is not the only official door. Assisted updating is built into PPP: staff at a CSC, SARAL Kendra or a PPP Operator can open your record and make the change alongside you, and NIC Haryana’s PPP page notes that family information can be updated or verified at the nearest Atal Seva Kendra or SARAL Kendra as well.

Carry three things: the 8-digit Family ID, the Head of Family’s Aadhaar and mobile, and your new address written out in full. Put the request plainly — after our house shift, only the address in our Family ID is to be changed, to this one. Before leaving the counter, read the address on the screen and again on the printed form, giving the PIN its own separate look. Using the official channels costs nothing in enrolment fees, and no outsider can alter the address in your PPP record — so never hand the Head of Family OTP to anyone who phones you asking for it.

Conclusion

On the ground, your family has already shifted. On record, the shift counts only once the Family ID carries the new home. Decide the address’s final written form first, alter just that field inside Update Family Details, seal it with the printed, signed upload, and then read the stored address back — PIN included — as your proof. Should a verified address refuse to budge online, the Correction/Grievance route or the counter of a CSC, SARAL Kendra, Atal Seva Kendra or PPP Operator remains the official path.

FAQs

1. Our new house is in the same district as the old one. Is an update still needed?

It is, whenever the home itself has changed. The recorded address is meant to be the house the family actually lives in today, district or no district. During the visit, change only the address details that the move has changed and leave the remainder of the record alone.

2. We have moved out of Haryana. Can we just change the address like this?

No — the two situations are handled differently. A shift inside Haryana is an ordinary address update on the same Family ID. Leaving the state raises questions about the PPP number itself, which the separate guide linked in this article covers; do not file an out-of-state move as a simple change of address.

3. Is a centre visit compulsory, or can we do this from home?

Start from home: Update Family Details plus the Head of Family OTP is enough for most families. If the address already stands verified and the screen will not let you edit it, switch to the Correction/Grievance route or let a CSC, SARAL Kendra or PPP Operator handle it in assisted mode.

4. We submitted the new address but skipped signing and uploading. Does our update count?

Not yet. Under the official flow, a change stands completed only once the form has been printed, signed and the signed copy uploaded. Do that final step, then reopen the record and read the entire new address to be sure it stored correctly.

5. Part of the family stayed back at the old house. Should the Family ID be split during this same update?

Leave that out of this visit. Changing the shifted family’s address is one task; setting up a separate family for the members who remained is a different decision, with checks of its own. Complete the address update on its own, and take up any separate-family question afterwards, on its own merits.
