Chirayu Ayushman Haryana Expanded: Families With Income Above Rs 1.80 Lakh Can Now Get Rs 5 Lakh Cover
Until now, a Haryana family whose Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) income stood above Rs 1.80 lakh a year was outside the Chirayu Ayushman net, unless it qualified under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY itself. That line has now moved. Health Minister Arti Singh Rao has announced a major expansion of the Chirayu-Ayushman Bharat scheme: families with an annual income above Rs 1.80 lakh can now join Chirayu by paying a fixed yearly premium and receive cashless treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year at empanelled hospitals. The deciding figure is not a salary slip or a certificate you arrange yourself — it is the verified annual income recorded in your Family ID.
What Exactly Has Changed
Chirayu — the Comprehensive Health Insurance of Antyodaya Units — is Haryana’s own extension of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, running since 21 November 2022. Families with PPP income up to Rs 1.80 lakh have been covered free, and they remain covered free; nothing is taken away from them by this announcement. What is new is the door that has opened above that line. Families in higher income slabs, who earlier had no route into Chirayu at all, can now buy their way in at a premium fixed by the government — and the premium depends only on which income slab your Family ID places you in.
The Premium, Slab by Slab
- Income up to Rs 1.80 lakh: no premium — cover continues free, as before.
- Income above Rs 1.80 lakh and up to Rs 3 lakh: Rs 1,500 per family per year.
- Income above Rs 3 lakh and up to Rs 6 lakh: Rs 4,000 per family per year.
- Income above Rs 6 lakh: Rs 5,000 per family per year.
For that premium, the family receives the same ceiling as every other Chirayu family: cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in a year across the scheme’s empanelled hospitals — 1,307 hospitals across Haryana, government and private. The official scheme provisions keep the cover family-based: there is no cap on the size of the family or the age of its members, and around 2,200 treatment procedures are covered, with the cost of investigations, three days of pre-hospitalisation care and fifteen days of post-hospitalisation care built into the treatment cost.
Why Your Family ID Income Decides Everything Here
Read the slabs again and one thing stands out: the premium is not chosen by you, negotiated by an agent, or fixed by the hospital. It is read off the income verified in your PPP. That has a practical consequence many families will meet this season. If the income recorded in your Family ID is wrong — higher than your real income — the portal will place you in a costlier slab, or, at the Rs 1.80 lakh boundary, push you out of free cover altogether. If it is recorded lower than the truth, a later verification can raise questions about the cover itself.
So before paying anything, do the two-minute check first: confirm what income your Family ID actually shows. How to see that figure step by step is covered in how to check income in Family ID online. And if the figure is wrong, get it corrected before the registration window closes — see how to apply for income correction online. The slab you pay for a full policy year is the slab your record shows on the day you register.

How to Register and Pay: The Official Route
Registration and premium payment for the expanded cover happen on the official Chirayu portal: chirayuayushmanharyana.in. The gateway is open from 15 September 2026 and closes on 30 November 2026. The premium paid in this window buys the new policy year, which runs from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027.
The flow on the portal runs through your Family ID:
- Open the official portal — type chirayuayushmanharyana.in yourself. Do not follow a registration link forwarded on a message; this is a payment, and look-alike sites are exactly how families get cheated during enrolment season.
- Enter your Family ID (PPP) number. The portal reads your family’s verified income from PPP and shows the slab — free, or the premium that applies to you.
- Verify with the OTP sent to the mobile number registered with the record.
- Complete the registration form and pay the premium online, if your slab carries one. Keep the payment receipt safe; it is your proof for the policy year.
- Complete member e-KYC and get the cards. Ayushman cards for family members are generated through the official beneficiary portal (beneficiary.nha.gov.in) or the Ayushman app, and help is available at Atal Seva Kendras — carry Aadhaar and the Family ID.
One caution worth repeating: the premium is paid only inside the official portal. No official takes this payment in cash at your doorstep, and no agent can register you “faster” from outside the portal.
The Scheme So Far, in the Government’s Own Numbers
In the same announcement, the government shared where Chirayu and PM-JAY together stand in Haryana. Through the Ayushman Bharat Haryana Health Protection Authority, 40,27,391 beneficiaries have so far received treatment under PM-JAY and Chirayu at the 1,307 empanelled hospitals. Claims worth Rs 4,617.45 crore have been settled, and 1.42 crore PM-JAY and Chirayu cards have been issued in the state. Under the new premium arrangement itself, 47,547 families in the Rs 1.80 lakh to Rs 3 lakh income category have already received the scheme’s benefits — an early sign of how many families were waiting just above the old line.

Conclusion
The expansion turns Chirayu from a scheme with a hard income wall into one with a priced door. Below Rs 1.80 lakh of PPP income, cover stays free. Above it, a family’s yearly premium — Rs 1,500, Rs 4,000 or Rs 5,000 — is fixed entirely by the income recorded in its Family ID, and buys the same Rs 5 lakh cashless cover for the policy year running to 31 October 2027. The registration window closes on 30 November 2026, so the order of work matters: check the income in your Family ID first, correct it if it is wrong, and only then register and pay on the official portal.
FAQs
1. Our Family ID income is below Rs 1.80 lakh. Do we now have to pay a premium too?
No. Families with PPP income up to Rs 1.80 lakh continue to be covered free, exactly as before. The premium applies only to families above that line who are joining under the expansion.
2. Which income will the portal use — what I earn, or what my Family ID shows?
What your Family ID shows. Eligibility and the premium slab are determined on the basis of the verified annual income recorded in the Parivar Pehchan Patra. If that recorded income is wrong, correct it first — a wrong figure can put you in a costlier slab or outside free cover.
3. What is the last date to register, and what period does the premium cover?
The registration and payment gateway remains open until 30 November 2026. The premium paid in this window covers the policy period from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027.
4. Is the premium charged per person?
No. The premium is per family per year, and the official scheme provisions place no cap on family size or on the age of members. One premium covers the family’s Rs 5 lakh yearly limit.
5. Can an agent or a CSC register us from any website?
The registration and payment gateway is the official portal, chirayuayushmanharyana.in — type the address yourself rather than following a forwarded link, and pay only inside that portal. For card generation and help, the official beneficiary portal (beneficiary.nha.gov.in) and Atal Seva Kendras are the recognised channels.
