How to Add a Newborn Baby in Family ID: Process After Birth, Explained
To add a newborn baby in your Family ID, open Update Family Details on the official Mera Parivar portal, sign in with your existing 8-digit Family ID and the OTP sent to the Head of Family mobile, and use the Add Member option for the baby. Fill the baby’s member details, keep the birth certificate ready as the proof of birth, and finish the update the way every PPP update finishes — print the form, get it signed, and upload the signed copy. The baby joins the same Family ID your family already holds; a newborn does not get a separate ID.
Do this once the birth is registered and you have the birth certificate in hand. That one document is what this addition turns on, and having it ready before you start saves a half-finished attempt.
First, Look at the Member List Before You Add Anyone
A birth is exactly the kind of life event PPP was built to record. The official description of the programme says the Family ID is linked to birth, death and marriage records so that family data can be updated as these events happen.
So before adding the baby yourself, open your family record and read the member list that appears after OTP verification. If the baby’s name is already there, check its spelling and date of birth carefully and stop — there is nothing to add. If the name is not there, or a detail is wrong, proceed with the Add Member steps below. Starting with this look prevents the one mistake that creates real trouble later: the same child entered twice.
How to open and read that list is covered in the member-list guide on this site — this article stays on the addition itself.
The One Document a Newborn Addition Turns On
The official PPP documents list asks every family member for an Aadhaar Card, and names a proof of birth for each member. For adults that proof can be a matriculation or school leaving certificate; a newborn obviously has none of those. The first proof of birth the official list names is the Birth Certificate, and for a baby it is the document that matters — it carries the child’s name, date and place of birth and the parents’ names in the form the record needs.
Two practical consequences follow from the same official list. The Voter ID requirement in it applies only to members above 18 years of age, so it does not apply to your baby. And the list marks bank passbook as optional and PAN as “if available”, neither of which a newborn addition depends on. Keep the list for this job short and specific: your existing Family ID, the Head of Family Aadhaar and mobile for the OTP, and the baby’s birth certificate.
If the birth has only just happened and the birth certificate has not been issued yet, complete the birth registration first and then do this addition. Adding a child with a guessed name spelling or date of birth creates a correction job on top of an addition job.

Adding the Baby, Step by Step
Use only the official portal, and do the whole addition in one sitting so the final signed upload is not forgotten.
Step 1 — Open Update Family Details. Go to meraparivar.haryana.gov.in, open Citizen Corner and choose Update Family Details.
Step 2 — Find your family. Choose Yes and enter your 8-digit Family ID. If you do not remember the number, choose No and search by the Head of Family Aadhaar — the Forgot Family ID route.
Step 3 — Verify the OTP. The OTP goes to the mobile number of the Head of Family stored in the PPP database. Enter it to open the family record; the data of all members registered under that ID will appear.
Step 4 — Choose Add Member, not Member Details. Against each existing name you will see a Member Details option, which is for editing a person already on the list. For a new baby, use the Add Member option instead — this is the button the official flow provides for adding a new family member.
Step 5 — Fill the baby’s member details exactly as on the birth certificate. Enter the name, date of birth, gender and the baby’s relation to the Head of Family as the form asks, matching the birth certificate word for word. The name you type here is the name schemes, the ration record and later school-related services will read, so a spelling that differs from the certificate is a problem stored for later.
Step 6 — Print, sign and upload to finish. After filling the member details form, print it, get it signed, and upload a clear scan or photo of the signed form. This signed upload is what completes the update — why it is required is explained in the print-sign-upload guide on this site.
Step 7 — Re-open the list and confirm. Once the update is processed, open the member list again and confirm the baby now appears with the correct name and date of birth. That confirmation, not the form you filled, is the proof the addition is on record.
If the OTP Mobile or the Portal Is Out of Reach
Not every family can complete this at home, and the official system expects that. In assisted mode, a CSC, SARAL Kendra or PPP Operator can work on your record on your behalf, and family information can also be updated or verified at an Atal Seva Kendra or SARAL Kendra.
Take the Head of Family, the family Aadhaar and the baby’s birth certificate, and state the request in one line — add the newborn as a member under our existing Family ID. Read the baby’s name and date of birth back from the screen or the printed form before you leave, and keep the signed copy you uploaded with the birth certificate. Enrolment through the official channels carries no fee, and no agent outside this system can add a member to your PPP record — never share your OTP with someone offering to do it over a phone call.
What Changes Once the Baby Is on the Record
Once the newborn appears in the member list, your family record shows the household as it now is. That count matters quietly in the background: the family size in PPP is part of the picture departments use when they work out eligibility and entitlements for household-based services, so a baby who is missing from the record is a member the system does not see. Adding the child now, while the birth certificate is new and in your hand, is far easier than reconstructing the proof years later when a service first asks for it.

Conclusion
Adding a newborn to a Family ID is an addition, not a new application: the baby joins your existing 8-digit Family ID through the Add Member option inside Update Family Details. Check the member list first in case the birth record has already brought the name in, keep the birth certificate ready as the baby’s proof of birth, match every detail to that certificate as you fill the form, and do not stop before the print, sign and upload step that completes the update. If home access fails, a CSC, SARAL Kendra or PPP Operator counter can do it with you — and a final look at the member list, with your baby’s correct name on it, is the finish line.
FAQs
1. Does my newborn baby get a separate Family ID number?
No. A Family ID belongs to the family, not to one person. The baby is added as a new member under your family’s existing 8-digit Family ID through the Add Member option in Update Family Details; no separate ID is created for a child.
2. Which document should I keep ready before adding my baby?
The baby’s Birth Certificate. The official PPP documents list names it first among the proofs of birth, and the other proofs it lists — matriculation certificate, school leaving certificate, medical certificate — are not documents a newborn has. Complete the birth registration first if the certificate has not been issued yet.
3. The Voter ID and bank passbook are on the PPP documents list. Do I need them for my baby?
No. In that same official list, the Voter ID requirement is only for members above 18 years of age, and the bank passbook is shown as optional. Neither applies to adding a newborn; the birth certificate and the Head of Family OTP access are what this addition needs.
4. I filled the Add Member form but did not upload anything. Is my baby added?
The addition is an update, and in the official flow an update is completed only after the filled form is printed, signed and the signed copy is uploaded — the official FAQ material describes that upload as mandatory to complete a PPP updation. Go back, complete that step, and then confirm the baby’s name in the member list.
5. Can a SARAL Kendra or CSC add my baby if I cannot use the portal at home?
Yes. Assisted mode is an official route: a CSC, SARAL Kendra or PPP Operator can update family details on the citizen’s behalf, and help is also available at an Atal Seva Kendra. Take the Head of Family, the family Aadhaar and the baby’s birth certificate, and check the name and date of birth on screen before leaving.
