Family ID After Leaving Haryana: When Can a PPP Number Be Deactivated?
If your whole family has moved out of Haryana, your Parivar Pehchan Number (PPP), also called Family ID, can be deactivated. This is not a guess or a rumour. It is written in the official Haryana Parivar Pehchan Authority (Deactivation of Parivar Pehchan Numbers) Regulations, 2024. Under these regulations, deactivation happens only in specific circumstances, and one of them is when all members of a family migrate out of Haryana.
Many families ask this question when they shift to another state for work, marriage or a permanent home. They want to know whether their 8-digit Family ID will keep working, whether it will be cancelled on its own, and who can request deactivation. This article explains only what the official regulations say, in simple words.
What Does Deactivation of a Family ID Mean?
The Parivar Pehchan Number is the unique identifier assigned to a family in the Family Information Data Repository. Deactivation means that Parivar Pehchan Number and the associated family information are deactivated in that repository.
The regulations were made by the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Authority under the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Act, 2021. They were notified on 22 January 2025 and came into force on the date of their notification by the Authority. The short title given in the notification is the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Authority (Deactivation of Parivar Pehchan Numbers) Regulations, 2024.
The Main Rule: All Members Migrate Out of Haryana
The first circumstance listed in the regulations is clear: All members of a family migrate out of Haryana.
Please note the word “all”. The regulation does not say that a Family ID is deactivated when one member moves out, or when the head of family alone shifts for a job. The ground stated in the official text is migration of all members of the family out of Haryana.
So, if some members of your family still remain in Haryana, this specific ground, as written, does not describe your case. Do not assume your ID will be deactivated just because one person has left the state.
All 4 Circumstances for Deactivation in the Official Regulations
The regulations list four circumstances in total. A Parivar Pehchan Number and associated family information may be deactivated for any of the following reasons:
- All members of a family migrate out of Haryana.
- No member of a family having a Parivar Pehchan Number remains in the family.
- No member of the family is alive.
- The head of family makes a request in writing to the Chief Executive Officer for deactivation.
These are the only four circumstances stated in this regulation. If a situation is not in this list, the regulation does not treat it as a ground for deactivation.

Who Can Request Deactivation?
Under the fourth circumstance, the request can be made by the head of family. The regulation says the head of family makes a request in writing to the Chief Executive Officer of the Haryana Parivar Pehchan Authority.
That means: The request is in writing, not just a verbal request. It is addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority. It is made by the head of family, as defined for the family’s Parivar Pehchan Number.
The regulations do not state an online button, a fee, or a time limit for this written request. Families should therefore not rely on any third-party claim about an online deactivation form or a deadline unless the Authority itself publishes it on an official portal.
Permanent Family ID and Temporary Family ID: The Difference
The official Parivar Pehchan Patra information issued by the Citizen Resource Information Department, Government of Haryana, explains two types of families in PPP:
- Permanent family: A family currently residing in Haryana is required to enrol in PPP and is issued a permanent 8-digit Family ID.
- Temporary family: A family residing outside Haryana but applying for any service or scheme of the State is also required to enrol, and is issued a 9-digit temporary Family ID which begins with the letter ‘T’.
This distinction matters after leaving Haryana. Living outside the state and needing a Haryana government service is treated differently in PPP from a family that resides in Haryana. If your family now lives outside Haryana and applies for a Haryana service or scheme, the temporary ID system described in the official information may apply to you, instead of the permanent 8-digit ID for residents.
What Should a Family Do After Shifting Out of Haryana?
Based only on the official regulations and official PPP information, families can keep these points in mind:
- Check which case applies to you: Have all members migrated out, or do some members still remain in Haryana?
- If you are the head of family and you want deactivation, prepare a written request to the Chief Executive Officer, Haryana Parivar Pehchan Authority, as stated in the regulations.
- Keep your Family ID details and family information safe until the matter is decided. Do not share your OTP or personal details with any unofficial person or website.
- For any Haryana service or scheme you still need while living outside the state, check the official Mera Parivar portal for the temporary family enrolment information.
- Do not pay any unofficial agent for deactivation. The regulations do not mention any agent or fee.
Common Misunderstandings to Avoid
First, deactivation after leaving Haryana applies, as written, when all members migrate out. It is not stated for a single member’s move.
Second, deactivation is different from a correction. Wrong name, income, mobile number or other details are correction matters on the PPP system. They are not listed as deactivation grounds in these regulations.
Third, no automatic date or month is given in the regulations. Any claim that all such IDs will be deactivated by a fixed date should be checked on an official Haryana or HPPA source before believing it.

Conclusion
After leaving Haryana, a Family ID can be deactivated when all members of the family have migrated out of the state. The official HPPA regulations list only four grounds in total, including a written request by the head of family to the Chief Executive Officer. If your family still has members living in Haryana, or you now live outside the state but need a Haryana service, read the permanent and temporary ID rules carefully and use only official channels.
